Pheasants and Pine Trees
Title
Pheasants and Pine Trees
Subject
Kano School
Description
This is one of a pair of six-fold standing screens painted with gold leaf, ink, and paint. It depicts a landscape with male and female pheasants on pine trees surrounded by snow. The screens are attributed to the Kano School, though more specific authorship is difficult to ascertain, as the Kano School's foundation was built upon copying from the masters. This set of standing screens is included in this website as further evidence for the Phoenix Composed Exhibition. The bodies of these pheasants show clear influence on the bodies of the mythical phoenixes also painted by Kano School artists.
