sketches from nature
Title
sketches from nature
Description
This is a set of three sketches retrieved from Maruyama's sketchbook. They include sketches of insects, flowers, and birds. These sketches act as evidence of the Edo period's fascination with natural science. They also establish the newfound importance placed upon an artist's naturalism. In particular, the sketches of birds included in this set are vary valuable to the exhibition analyses included in this website.
